In particular, reflect on your own process for idea generation, and how going out into the field and undertaking research might benefit that process. Finally, consider how this environment might help to shape other aspects of your writing, such as character and atmosphere.   WHERE DO I GET MY IDEAS AS A WRITER?   I think what has always been most successful when it comes to filmmaking and storytelling within the horror genre is when it has stemmed from some sort of experience has that stuck with them throughout the years.   FEED IT By Jack Carlin Psychological Horror / Short Film   Content Warning: Strong Violence, Themes of Sexual Nature, Mildly Offensive Language Act One Colin sits in his car alone, exchanging conversation with his wife Siobhan on the phone on when to expect him home. After the call messages quickly come through from a gay hook-app named Bandit, from a profile named “Hornytwink01”. Colin’s profile remains blank with his visible name being “Discreetmeet89”, evidently proving his discretion. He takes off his wedding ring and disposes of it in his pocket. The two meet as Colin drives to a deserted location for the two to have cautious sex without fear of being spotted. Soon after Colin realises that Hornytwink01 might know more about him than he’s comfortable with, making a throwaway remark of once seeing Colin with his wife. OUTLINE

  FEED IT Content Warning: Sexual Themes & Strong Violence Colin sits alone at night as he waits for his bi weekly discreet meet up with a male uni student, in which they drive to Colin’s secure spot outside a near forest for discreet sex. Colin always makes sure to take off his wedding ring beforehand. After the meet, Colin soon realises that the young uni student perhaps knows more about him than he desires, spiraling him into a state of paranoia and urgency. In order to stop this from ever getting out he knows what he has to do - he needs to feed him to the forest. Colin creeps home and crawls into bed next to his wife Siobhan, unaware of his late-night antics. That night Colin is tormented by visions of the malignant entity that lives within the darkness of the forest, accompanied by the disfigured and bloodied bodies of dead boys, repeating how he needs to feed the student to the forest, chanting how it’s that time again, time the beast needs to feed.  Colin wakes up ...

Week 2

A screenplay in its typed-out form is that which outlines the visual, aural, behavioural and lingual elements required when telling a story. Screenplays themselves are highly collaborative, and are used as a means of bringing together other factors of the filmmaking creative process, ie. the director, producer, editor, cast and more. Using every aspect of this collaborative medium also interprets the story you want to tell and how it translates from page to screen. A script must be able to conform to the other members of the creative party to match the overall vision of those involved in bringing the project to realisation and life. This however does not take away from the significance and importance of the screenplay itself, laying the groundwork for essential aspects within specific genres. Week 1 - Reflection

When it comes to telling cinematic stories, I have always been drawn to tales tangled within the horror genre. Whether it be a psychological thriller or a Halloween-esque slasher, the genre and its many faces is what draws me into this course, and more specifically my own individuality that I wish to explore through the lens of horror. The horror genre historically ignores queer representation (aside from Vampire sub-genre which is unashamedly homoerotic), therefore the niche of queer-centric horror films that takes itself seriously with a specific point of view is one that is only recently coming to light. The days of gimmick queer horror are behind us, and I believe my progressive way of viewing genre films is the point of view needed to succeed in this course. My drive is in my expression of queer representation through the narrative constructs of the horror perspective.
